Plot Summary
At the beginning of the film, James Bond (Connery) fakes his death to try to fool the enemy, SPECTRE in this case. Meanwhile, SPECTRE is up to no good. From a secret location, they launch a spacecraft which hijacks two American astronauts in orbit and kills a third, who is engaged in a space walk. The U.S. government suspects the Soviets are responsible, though Bond and British Secret Service suspect otherwise. Bond travels to Japan, where he meets up with "Tiger" Tanaka (Tamba) and his beautiful assistant Aki (Wakabayashi). Eventually Bond is led to Ernst Stavro Blofeld (Pleasence), leader of SPECTRE, who operates inside an extinct volcano on a remote island. SPECTRE launches another spacecraft which hijacks a Soviet spaceship. Eventually they launch a third one, but Bond is able to get to the controls and destroy it before it captures a second American spaceship, which would've triggered a nuclear war. After this, Blofeld destroys the secret complex. James of course manages to escape.
Gadgets Like most Bond films, You Only Live Twice features plenty of fancy gadgets. Here are some:
Little Nellie: Little Nellie is a fancy one-passenger helicopter assembled out of a suitcase, featuring lots of deadly weapons.
Shooting Cigarette: Tiger gives Bond a cigarette which when lit shoots a bullet with an accuracy of 30 yards.
Gyrojet Rocket Guns: These are one of the features of Little Nellie. Its ammunition is launched with rocket boosters.
