Plot Summary Axel Foley (Eddie Murphy) is a former Detroit criminal turned cop. He gets a visit from his old crime partner Mikey, who ends up getting killed in the hallway outside his apartment. Going against the orders of his boss, Axel goes to Beverly Hills, where Mikey had worked, to investigate his murder. Shortly thereafter, he discovers that Mikey's boss, Victor Maitland, is involved in illegal drug trade. Eventually he also learns that Victor had been responsible for Mikey's murder, whence he avenges him, saving the life of Jeannette Somers, another employee of Victor whom he'd kidnapped.
Humor More than any other film, Beverly Hills Cop contributed to the success of Eddie Murphy. Throughout the film, Axel demonstrates his art of lying and playing gags. Here are some funny scenes in the movie:
At the beginning of the film, Axel goes undercover as a hoodlum involved in a cigarette smuggling operation. The cops find him without realizing it's him and chase him and the criminals through Detroit, leading to lots of damage.
Axel is able to get a room at a fancy hotel in Beverly Hills by claiming to be an editor for the Rolling Stones magazine and accusing them of racism.
Axel gets away from detectives John Taggert (John Ashton) and Billy Rosewood (Judge Reinhold) by sneaking up to the back of their car and sticking a banana into their tail pipe.
