    Commentary
Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sex (But Were Afraid to Ask) is a hilarious Woody Allen comedy. The movie consists of seven segments, each loosely based on material from the popular 1969 book of the same title by Dr. David Reuben. Each segment is a very amusing look at a specific question regarding sex. All the acting in this movie is well done, especially Woody's roles.

    Plot Summary
The movie consists of the following seven segments:

    1. Do Aphrodesiacs Work? Woody plays a medieval court jester
who manages to get a hold of a love potion which he slips on the queen to make her fall in love with him. He fails to have sex with her however because he can't unlock her chastity belt.
    2. What Is Sodomy? A doctor played by Gene Wilder ends up falling in love with his patient's sheep, with which he has a very humanlike affair.
    3. Do Some Women Have Trouble Reaching Orgasm? This segment features a young Italian couple in which the woman needs to have sex in public in order to have an orgasm. They end up doing it on top of a church and inside a sculpture at an art museum.
    4. Are Transvestites Homosexuals? A middle-age married man can't resist trying on his wife's clothes. Eventually he gets caught after escaping through the window of his house and being mugged on the street.
    5. What Are Sex Perverts? We're shown "What's My Perversion?", a spoof of the popular old game show "What's My Line". At the end of the show, an old Rabbi ends up acting out his perversion of having a beautiful blonde tie him up and whip him while another woman eats pork in front of him.
    6. Are the Findings of Doctors and Clinics Who Do Sexual Research Accurate? This segment is a Frankenstein parody, in which a young couple visits the house of a mad scientist who ends up creating a giant breast, which the couple narrowly escapes from.
    7. What Happens During Ejaculation? This segment takes place inside the body of a young man while he is having sex with his girlfriend. Workmen inside different parts of the body perform various bodily functions. Woody Allen plays the role of a sperm being ejaculated. The man nearly fails to ejaculate due to a priest inside the brain who objects to the nature of the sex act!

    Cultural Significance
Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sex (But Were Afraid to Ask) is one of several Woody Allen comedies which deals with sex in a humorous way. His follow-up movie Sleeper (1973) features an orgasmitron, a futuristic device which causes its occupants to experience orgasm. Annie Hall (1977) is full of sexual humor, including personal interviews with people on the street regarding sex.
