Commentary Goldfinger is my favorite James Bond film. Like all Bond films, it's fast-paced with chase scenes, fancy gadgets, infamous villains, and beautiful women. I think Goldfinger stands above the rest though in its acting, script, and storyline. Gert Frobe does a superb acting job as Goldfinger, the gold tycoon who will stop at nothing to carry out his evil plan of global financial domination. Sean Connery is my favorite James Bond actor, and he does a terrific job in this movie. The movie is also very artistic, with lots of beautiful scenery as well as a very cool intro, in which scenes from the movie are previewed by projecting them onto the body of a beautiful naked woman covered with gold.
Plot Summary James Bond (Sean Connery) is given a mission to observe Auric Goldfinger (Gert Frobe), an international businessman whom Bond's headquarters in London suspect of fraud. Goldfinger turns out to be an incredibly evil tycoon, bent on world domination. By seducing his assistant Pussy Galore (Honor Blackman), Bond manages to foil Goldfinger's plan.
Gadgets One thing which has always impressed me about James Bond films are the gadgets. Goldfinger makes good use of them, especially for the time it was made. Bond's Aston Martin is quite impressive. Its features include the following:
a navigation device (like a modern GPS)
bullet-proof glass
tire slashers
an oil slick
a passanger ejector seat
Goldfinger has some equally impressive gadgets of his own, including the following:
a trick pool table with a control panel
a hidden movie screen and projector
retractable walls and a retractable floor with a model of Ft. Knox below
an industrial strength laser, which I've been told was a year ahead of its time
