    Commentary
Sleeper is a very funny Sci-Fi comedy written, directed by, and starring Woody Allen. It's loosely based on the 1898 H.G. Wells Sci-Fi novel "When the Sleeper Wakes" in that it concerns a man who wakes up 200 years in the future. However, Sleeper isn't serious at all. The movie is full of laughs, both in the script and in Woody Allen's acting.

    Plot Summary
Miles Monroe (Woody Allen) is hospitalized for a routine hernia operation in 1973, but he is accidentally frozen with liquid nitrogen and revived 200 years later. He awakens into a totalitarian world governed by a single leader. Unbeknownst to everyone except a handful of medical scientists and rebels, the leader has been bombed and all that remains of him is his nose. A team of scientists organize a secret project to try to clone him from his nose. Miles teams up with Luna Schlosser (Diane Keaton) and a group of rebels to sabotage the project and start a socialist revolution.

    Humor
Sleeper is full of Woody Allen's brand of wacky humor typical of his early films. Here are some funny scenes:

    • Miles disguises himself as a butler robot in order to escape capture by the authorities. He ends up catering a party hosted by Luna. At the party, he accidentally burns the guests' clothes, battles a huge glob of instant pudding, and gets high off "the orb", a metal ball the guests pass around to get high.
    • Miles gets outfitted by two Jewish taylor robots who argue with each other and fit him electronically with a suit that's way too large. After he complains, one says, "Okay, okay, we'll take it in!"
    • Miles goes to a McDonalds which says "over 75,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 served".
